New 7zip SFX for those who need it…

New 7-zip SFX

New 7-zip SFX

While we were finishing up 11.61 release, which was quite important, we got reported issue with our 7-zip SFX. It turns out it was quite (terrifying) slow when you have many files in it (reported issue was with 80,000 files). So as soon as 11.61 was out, we turned into fixing and improving that SFX.

New and updated version has instant startup, better progress and extraction times that are similar as in PowerArchiver. If you are using our 7zip sfx to distribute files to your users, it would be much advised if you get the updated version.

Here is the updated release:
http://powerarchiver.com/test/PASZIPSFX-new.DAT

To install it, you need to download it, remove “-new” from the filename, and copy it to your PowerArchiver\Sfxs folder.

Thanks for being so great and happy holidays!

    Hello :)

I’ve been a happy user for many years now ever since I grew tired of cracking PA (and other software in general) and figgered the price wasn’t bad at all for software that gives you years of updates and everything (and more) that I need from an archiver.

I was just gonna pop by and say I still love PA but coud you please make the updater more invisible. It just so happened I decided to read the blog first and it seems you’ve just magically decided to fulfill my wish without me asking :D

    Thanks!

I’ve used PowerArchiver a very long time and am a very satisfied user, having first registered it at PA2001 almost 9 years ago when order numbers hadn’t even reached 1500 yet. It’s not so much the update check itself that I found annoying, but having it pop up and then later telling me that no updates were available. I don’t need to be told that PA is checking for updates (after all, if I didn’t want it to, I would’ve set the frequency to “never”) and I certainly don’t need to be told that no updates are available — that is non-information. Have it work in the background and only tell me something that I need to know (an update is available). Unobtrusive is the magic word.

Other than that, I already like your existing update system and especially the fact that it shows the “what’s new” information with the update notification itself. I also love that you do frequent updates and keep improving the software. If this blog post is any indication and that niggle is resolved, that will make an already great piece of software even better!
