For all of you that use PowerArchiver in corporate environment, we have added FIPS 140-2 certified encryption (ZIP and ZIPX AES 128bit, 192bit and 256bit) and Secure FTP downloads/uploads (SFTP as well as FTP SSL).

More about FIPS standard

Federal Information Processing Standard 140-2 (FIPS 140-2) is entitled “Security Requirements for Cryptographic Modules.” It’s a standard that describes government requirements that hardware and software products should meet for Sensitive but Unclassified (SBU) use. The standard was published by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), has been adopted by the Canadian government’s Communications Security Establishment (CSE), and is being adopted by the financial community through the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).

FIPS 140-2 requires federal government agencies that use cryptographic-based security systems to protect sensitive information to comply with the standards. Any organisation that does any kind of business with any government agency is also required to comply with the standards.

PowerArchiver is using Windows cryptographic modules for certification/validation. Windows XP SP3 and newer are FIPS 140-2 certified, while previous versions are FIPS 140-1 certified. More info and certificates can be found here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc750357.aspx#e1

PowerArchiver is using OpenSSL cryptographic module for SFTP/FTP SSL certification/validation. More info and certificate can be found here: http://csrc.nist.gov/groups/STM/cmvp/documents/140-1/140val-all.htm#1051

You can now use PowerArchiver 2011/2012 (and any future versions) to securely exchange encrypted sensitive information with any US or Canadian government agency in compliance with FIPS 140 standards.

Hello Everyone!

After long months of wait, we are happy to show your our latest product – Patchbeam update engine! As promised early this year, Patchbeam has been designed to seriously cut down the time it takes to update PowerArchiver, and with minimum interaction with the user.

Here is what our design goals were (and what we ended up with):

Smaller Installations. Our current installer is between 9 and 10 MB. We wanted to decrease update size to under 3 MB if possible. – result: updates as low as 500kb, almost 20x smaller than before!

Less interaction. You already have PowerArchiver installed and running. You do not need to interact with properly done update. Target was to lower number of clicks needed to 4. result: 1 click if you use silent update process in Vista/Windows 7, no clicks in XP!

Overall time for update. While 65 seconds is not bad, why not target 30 seconds or less? Lets do it! result: less than 2 seconds to update!

This was one of the most requested features ever, and we hope we made your life easier. Make sure you go to the Config> Auto update an check those silent update options for best experience. In the other news, PA 2011 is going well and you will be thrilled with all the new features! :). As we said before, we will now maintain current version as long as future release is in beta stage. That means that we will keep developing PA 2010 as long as PA 2011 is in beta stage, so in the future you will be able to get fixes and smaller improvements in shortest time possible!

thank you for reading!

edit: you can download it now.

edit2: you can check live demo of update system here: http://www.powerarchiver.com/blog/2010/11/01/demos-of-new-patchbeam-update-system/

I hope you are all doing well.

As our Facebook and Twitter followers know, we have been running sweepstakes for our Facebook and Twitter fans and we will be doing that every month from now on. All you have to do is be our follower on either, or both Facebook and Twitter and every month we will post on one of these sites and first 5 people who respond will get free license of PowerArchiver Standard. We did it on Facebook in September and we will do it on Twitter in October and we will continue doing it in the future!

At the time, I saw some posts (on other forums and download sites, not on ours) where people doubted that Standard might be gimped in the future release (even though we said it wont be), and here is where we prove them wrong – PA 2010 is here, and most of the new features are compression related and available for all users that have upgrade to PA 2010.

As added benefit to Pro users, we sent them Beta 1 Preview ahead of time, and it seems that many of them enjoy it very much.

So there you go guys, win-win situation for everyone and we will reveal soon more new and exciting features in PA 2010 that are currently under wraps for those that are not Pro customers.

Thanks!
