Since the release of PowerArchiver 2017 Beta 1 in late March, we have already published several versions to our fast update ring. Today’s build improves on those versions with some updates to the Advanced Codec Pack (.pa), with faster updating and more reliable deletion of files inside archives as well as numerous other improvements and fixes. Another major change is that our more secure AES implementation is now default and only choice for encryption in PA format.

PowerArchiver 2017 Beta 2 Major Changes:

1. [PA-32] – Save setup choices in registry (checkboxes).
2. [PA-813] – add RWZ to the compressed extensions in strong/fast modes for faster compression.
3. [PA-824] – change reflate/hif codec switches for better compression, cpu utilization.
4. [PA-830] – speed up .pa file list loading on over 300,000 files.
5. [PA-834] – add .md to the auto preview text list.
6. [PA-835] – update zstd2 to zstd3, more reliable multithreading.
7. [PA-839] – make secure aes default aes implementation in .pa format – more secure.
8. [PA-827] – .pa and 7z optimized mode: write directly to archive (much faster on huge files).
9. [PA-872] – better and faster update process for .pa and .7z archives (seamless updates).
10. [PA-807] – delete does not work in .pa archives (sometimes).

Fast Ring / Slow Ring update system reminder – We have introduced fast/slow ring update system since release of PA 2016. Please go to Config> Auto Update and select Fast Ring to get our « weekly » updates. Those of you that follow our website and our news section know that PowerArchiver works great on Windows 8 and has been for quite a while now, and now we also have gotten it officially certified by Microsoft and listed in the Windows App store for Windows 8 (desktop).

Windows 8 is an upgrade to Windows 7 and PowerArchiver will work great on all of those systems, including Windows XP and all of the server editions as well. We don’t plan to drop support for Windows XP or any other Windows operating systems anytime soon, despite end of life notice from Microsoft. So you can rest assured that ConeXware, Inc. will fully support Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2012 and all of the future versions of Windows desktop in all of our PowerArchiver products.
