PowerArchiver for Home Professionals

For one-person businesses — freelancers, solo CPAs, single-doctor practices, one-attorney firms. AES-256 + FIPS 140-2 cryptography for client RFPs that ask "do you encrypt?". Outlook add-in for encrypted attachments, Secure FTP for vendor/counsel exchange, OpenPGP signing. Perpetual license, £29.95 or £41.95 once, never expires.
Why solo pros

Three things you'll use every week

Single-license PowerArchiver Professional (£29.95) gives a solo operator the encryption + secure-delivery toolkit that 50-seat shops pay volume Pro for. Bought once, your hardware, never expires.
Vendor RFPs

FIPS 140-2 line on the security questionnaire

When a corporate client's procurement team asks "describe your encryption," the answer is "FIPS 140-2 validated AES-256 via Microsoft CryptoAPI." Same crypto module Windows Server uses, same answer Fortune 500 vendor-due-diligence lists are looking for. Levels the playing field with the agency / firm down the street that has full-time IT.

Audit trail

OpenPGP-signed deliverables

Sign your archives so the receiving counsel / auditor / client can verify the file came from you and hasn't been tampered with. RSA-2048 / RSA-4096 / ECC keys, SHA-256+ hashes, fully interoperable with the rest of the GPG world. Useful for: tax-prep workpaper deliveries, expert-witness reports, medical record handoffs, contract executions where chain-of-custody matters.

Six solo-business patterns

Real PowerArchiver-using personas pulled from sales notes and customer interviews. Each maps to features in Professional or Toolbox; pick the edition that matches your work.
  • Solo accountant / CPA / EA — encrypted Outlook attachments to deliver tax workpapers, signed engagement letters, and IRS-correspondence packages to clients. AES-256 satisfies the AICPA generally-accepted "reasonable safeguards" expectation when handling 1040 / 1120 / 990 data. Edition: Professional (£29.95).
  • Freelance designer / agency-of-one — encrypted asset handoffs to clients, .PA codec-compressed PDFs that fit under email size limits without quality loss, SFX self-extracting installers for client deliverables, repair tool for that-one-corrupted-archive-the-client-sent. Edition: Professional or Toolbox (£29.95 / £41.95).
  • Indie consultant / advisory — secure FTP for client-server data exchange, OpenPGP signed deliverables for audit-trail engagements, encrypted long-term archive of project files for retention requirements. The "I'm a one-person consultancy that sounds like a 20-person firm" toolkit. Edition: Professional.
Solo attorney / one-lawyer firm — Rule 1.6(c) confidentiality requires reasonable encryption efforts; FIPS-validated AES-256 satisfies the bar. Outlook add-in for encrypted client communications, OpenPGP signatures for production deliveries, secure FTP for opposing-counsel exchanges. See PowerArchiver for Legal for the bar-rule-by-bar-rule mapping. Edition: Professional.
Single-doctor practice / sole-proprietor clinician — HIPAA Security Rule technical safeguards via FIPS-validated AES-256 (the HHS-recognized "Safe Harbor" for encrypted PHI). Outlook add-in for encrypted patient handoffs, secure FTP for billing clearinghouse uploads. See PowerArchiver for Healthcare for the HIPAA mapping. Edition: Professional.
  • Audio mastering / video editor (solo) — Toolbox for the disc burning, audio CD rip + burn (FLAC/MP3/WAV with CDDB), virtual ISO drive for managing client-supplied source masters, advanced .PA codec settings for tuning compression on 50–500 GB project archives. Edition: Toolbox (£41.95).
  • In Professional / Toolbox

What you get with one license

Same product the SMB and enterprise tiers use — just one seat instead of fifty. Standard (£17.95) covers the core archive UX. Professional (£29.95) adds the features that turn it into a business toolkit. Toolbox (£41.95) adds disc imaging / burner / advanced codec.

    FIPS 140-2 AES-256

Encryption via Microsoft CryptoAPI Enhanced Cryptographic Provider — same FIPS 140-2 validated module Windows Server uses. The answer to "describe your encryption" on a client procurement form. Available in Business onward. (For full FIPS 140-2 / HIPAA / DFARS validation paperwork, see Enterprise.)

    Outlook · Word · Excel add-ins

Professional / Toolbox. Compress + encrypt attachments without leaving the apps you already live in. One-click PAE2 / ZIP-AES encryption with auto-passphrase suggestion or your own.

Secure FTP / SFTP / FTPS

Professional / Toolbox. Built-in FTP client with FIPS-validated TLS, smart archive handling, bandwidth limiting, queue, resume. Replaces ad-hoc FileZilla deployments.

    OpenPGP signing & verification

Professional / Toolbox. Generate RSA / ECC keys. Sign archives, verify signatures, encrypt to multiple recipients. Standard OpenPGP (RFC 4880) — interoperable with the rest of the GPG world.

    PowerArchiver Cloud

Professional / Toolbox. 8-service integration (Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, Box, S3, Azure, Yandex, HiDrive). One product handles them all — no per-service desktop client to install.

    PowerArchiver Backup

Professional / Toolbox. VSS-aware nightly backup of your business mailbox, accounting database, project folders. Multi-target (local + cloud + offsite). Encrypted with AES-256 by default.

    PACL command line

Toolbox / Enterprise. The full command-line included for scripted nightly archives, automated client-deliverable bundling, or CI/CD if you ship code.

    Virtual ISO + full burner

Toolbox only. Mount client-supplied disc images, burn data/audio/Blu-ray for archival or distribution, master ISO9660+UDF hybrid discs. Useful for solo audio / video / archival work; skippable otherwise.

    Pick your edition

    For solo pros: usually Professional

Most home professionals land on Professional (£29.95) — it has the full Encryption Suite (with OpenPGP), PowerArchiver Backup with scheduling, Cloud connectors, Office add-ins, and Send-to-Secure-FTP that solo-business work needs. Step down to Business if you only need the archiver + AES-256 (rare for client-facing work). Step up to Toolbox if you also need PACL scripting, the full standalone FTP client, or disc-image / audio / video tooling.

    FAQ

    Common solo-pro questions

Am I a "Power User" or a "Home Professional"?

If you use it for personal/hobby work, browse Power Users. If you use it as part of a one-person business — invoicing clients, signing contracts, handling regulated data — you're a Home Professional. Same product, same single license; what differs is what the encryption + Outlook add-in + audit trail are protecting (your stuff vs. your clients' stuff). Different mental model, but the buy is identical.

Can I claim my solo practice meets HIPAA / GLBA / Rule 1.6 with PowerArchiver?

PowerArchiver is the encryption technical control that supports those frameworks. The framework compliance itself — risk assessment, BAAs, training, policies — is your responsibility. PowerArchiver gives you the FIPS 140-2 validated AES-256 your risk assessment cites. We supply documentation for the relevant regime on request: HIPAA, GLBA / SOX / PCI-DSS, ABA Rule 1.6, FIPS / DFARS. Email compliance for letterhead docs.

My client's outside-counsel guideline says encrypted attachments. Will PowerArchiver satisfy that?

Yes, in the typical case. Most outside-counsel and vendor-management guidelines require encryption-in-transit + at-rest with FIPS-validated AES (or equivalent). PowerArchiver's Outlook add-in produces FIPS-validated AES-256 encrypted attachments — the most common pattern those guidelines name. Some guidelines specify particular formats (.zip with AES, .pgp, .7z); PowerArchiver handles all three. If your client has a specific requirement, contact us with the language and we'll confirm.

Can I install on both my office computer and my laptop?

Yes. A single license covers your primary device + a secondary device used by the same person (e.g., desktop + laptop, or office + travel). For a second person at your practice (spouse, partner, paralegal), buy a 2-seat order — drops the per-license cost via volume pricing. Per the EULA, the personal-use clause means one licensed user across multiple devices, not multiple separate users sharing one license.

Does it expire? Do I have to subscribe?

No on both. Perpetual = perpetual. Buy once, your hardware, the version you bought works forever — no auto-renewal, no nag screen, no forced upgrade. Free updates within the current lifecycle are included with every paid edition. For premium support and free major-version upgrades, add PowerArchiver Select at checkout — 25%/yr or 50% for 3 years.

What if my solo practice grows? Can I add seats later?

Yes. Per-seat add-on orders are simple — buy the quantity you need at the volume tier matching your new size. At 5+ seats, browse the Business volume pricing. At 1,000+ seats it's worth looking at Enterprise Unlimited. Same product across all tiers; existing licenses keep working.
