Ideas: Full and far easier mutli-zip creation tool

Hello,

Let's take an example :
There are about 100 folders inside my main folder "A" :

C:\A\1\first.txt
C:\A\1\second.txt
C:\A\2\first.txt
C:\A\2\second.txt
...
C:\A\100\first.txt
C:\A\100\second.txt

And there are also these files inside my "A"folder :
C:\A\1.txt
C:\A\2.txt
C:\A\3.txt
C:\A\try.zip

If I use [CTRL+B] Within PowerArchiver, then it is very painful to use when there are many folders (100 in my case) to zip at once. Because I have to select manually "'add folder" for each folder!! ;-(

In the above example I would like to have this result :

C:\A\1.zip
C:\A\2.zip
...
C:\A\100.zip
C:\A\1_1.zip
C:\A\2_2.zip
C:\A\3_3.zip
C:\A\try.zip

As you see there is also a problem when a folder and a file have the same name. I assume it would be great that automatically PowerArchiver add a "_" with a number so the files are not the same.

Moreover if there is already a zip file in A (C:\A\try.zip), PowerArchiver will create another zip file (C:\A\try_zip.zip)! This is not needed IMHO.

Many thanks in advance for implementing these ideas (which are really needed for me as I zip many files and many folders at the same time),

All the best,
Lip
ps: I was using the freeware Rip-zip before as it was pretty powerful for such a task, but it creates bug on my computer (Xp) http://harmware.com/ripzip.htm. So maybe having a look at what it does would help you too?

I think these were in the old wishlist forum but cannot be certain.

1.

Using keyboard (e.g. Ctrl-A) to select ALL / using Mouse Shift-Click and Ctrl-Click to select Multiple - including both Files and Folders.

Enabling option in Batch Zip tool to work with (sub)folders and Zip the complete folder - not the individual files i.e. all files into single archive with Folder name.
I'm not sure about the naming problem - as files are archived as "filename.ext.zip" and folders as "Dirname.zip" - but if the file has no extension, it may happen.

2a There was another wishlist to enable an option to exclude the extension when Batch Zipping files, just creating "filename.zip" - here the same name problem would exist).

Automatic exclusion of existing archives (all formats) when Batch Zip is working with files - but not excluded if working with Folders (item 2 above).

Also there were two others I do remember:
4. Rename Batch Zip Tool to Multiple Archive Tool {or similar} as all compression formats are possible.
5. Make Tool available from Explorer shell.

Have I missed anything?

Dear Terry,

Thank you for your answer. Please let me comment it hereafter :

1.

"Quote:

I am sorry as I thought that my example was enough clear. But your answer is valid only if I want only a big zip file which would contain all that is stored inside the A folder ("C:\A\") of my example.
In your example : you click on "new" choose a name for the archive and then click on "add files to the archive".

This is not what I would like as I want to have all files and folders inside "A" zipped as a separate zip file. And I would like to make a very small number of click for that.

2.

"I'm not sure about the naming problem - as files are archived as "filename.ext.zip" and folders as "Dirname.zip" - but if the file has no extension, it may happen."

I understand this. But let's take another example :
I have one folder named "1" :
C:\A\1\
inside this folder I have a file :
C:\A\1\1.txt

I have also another file in A :
C:\A\1.txt

So when I use the batch file [CTRL+B] I have the following results :
C:\A\1\1_txt.zip
and
C:\A\1_txt.zip

But this is not the result I want to! I would like to have :
C:\A\1.zip
and
C:\A\1_txt.zip

Please notice that I have more than 100 folders and also many files to zip at once. Try to do a CTRL+A (or SHift , CTRL) for selecting multiple folders and files and you will see that it does not work with CTRL+B (batch zip). ;-(

3.
(...)
"Automatic exclusion of existing archives (all formats) when Batch Zip is working with files - but not excluded if working with Folders (item 2 above).

I am sorry but I don't understand the above statements.

"4. Rename Batch Zip Tool to Multiple Archive Tool {or similar} as all compression formats are possible."

Good idea! ;-)

I have another idea :
Add an option so we can choose to deleted the original files and folders once they are zipped.

By luck did you give a try to Ripzip? IMHO, you should as you will see that zipping many files is very powerful and easy (beware of its xp bug)!

Finally, I have another question : do you think that these easier features would be implemented any time soon?

Thanks in advance,
All the best,
Lip

No, that is true for "Create New Archive"; however, because this is a wishlist referring to additions to the Add dialogue for the Batch Zip tool, each file would then still be compressed to a seperate archive.

Quote:

C:\A\1\1_txt.zip and C:\A\1_txt.zip.
Yes, that is because currently Batch tool does not archive the folder "1".
I am agreeing with you that it would be a nice option to have in the future.

I mean that it would also be a nice option in the future (when Multiple file selection AND Folder selection is possible) if individual archive files were detected and not zipped again.
But if a folder is selected, then the archive new folder archive should include all the files and archives in that folder.

try Ripzip
No. Too limited to be useful (to me) and I saw your bug warning
The only worthwhile feature seems to be the user interface for multiple file/folder selection as this thread is requesting.

I am another user - same as you. I am not working for P.A. so I have no idea.

Spwolf or Ivan may respond - normally they do look (and take note) of things in Wishlist, but do not publish acceptance of the idea/request for implementation. Except an occasional "hmmm .. good idea".

Batch Zip Tool in explorer shell was originally a wishlist item from about 4 years ago

Dear Terry,
Thank you for your answer. I appreciated. ;-)
As PA customers I think we understand each other. ;-)

Let's hope PA authors understand also and continue to update PA, so it will still be the best zip program around! ;-)

BTW, you also right on ripzip (no need to install it, just have a look at these images :
