Poblem mounting ISO and bonus question

I'm not sure if I'm suppose to enter a support ticket somehow, or post here.

I've owned PA for a very long time now. have never had an issue i needed support for. Was an avid winzip fan until you came along. excellent product!

OK, this is something that's really bugging me. I put all my ISO images on a networked drive I have on my home file server. I do this because my storage drives are in a RAID5 on the server. with a gigabit connection it's fast enough.

But i have recently found a problem. In Windows 7 when I right click an ISO then choose 'mount as virtual drive', it appears to go through the process. when i'm done, it says it failed. no error code, or explanation of why.

if I copy that ISO to my local desktop or other local drive, it mounts without a problem.

Is this a known issue, or is there a fix? I searched but didn't find much.

Bonus question: Is there a reasonable way to unmount an ISO without having to go through a ridiculous process including launching power archiver then weeding through the menus to do so? if there's a right click and 'mount' shouldn't there be a right click then 'unmount'? i mean come on?

For Unmount, if you pin PA to the taskbar, you will be able to unmount easily as unmount is one of the options in the PA jumplist ;-).

Do you have full access to that iso file? Maybe an permissions issue?

thanks!

ahh thanks. pinned it to the start menu actually. dont want it on the task bar because 99% of my usage is context menus.

but it's not permissions issues on the mount me thinks. i've got full control, and ownership

So few questions to help us troubleshoot:
- whats the name of the share?
- how are you accessing it?
- Whats the name of the iso (or is renaming it to 1.iso helping?)
- Does it work if you move it to local drive and then try?

thanks!

Hi there, and thanks for the response.

You just missed the local drive part, I mentioned in my first post that if I copy the file to my local drive it works fine. it's ONLY on the network i have the problem.

Here's how i'm running. I have a home network that is running from a Windows 2008 SBS machine. It uses a domain of course, and the pc in question is joined to the domain. The folder I'm using is remote because I use redirected folder. So 'my documents' is actually \\MYSERVERNAME\RedirectedFolders\jt\My Documents\filename.iso

Changing the name doesn't help FYI I just tried it.

Does that help?

Did anything ever come of this?

I'm trying out the Virtual Drive features and have run into the same problem -- I can't mount an ISO image from a network drive.

It works to copy to a local drive and then mount, but I really don't want to do this.

Any fixes for this?

It's still logged into our system.
The dev team is working on some new features for PA 2012 at the moment...I'm expecting them to look at previous bugs after that and hopefully find a fix (or a solution) in PA 2012.

Very valid point! something i have mentioned and thought about when mounting and unmounting.
However, i never thought it as a bug more an anoyance.

I would like to see a gadget on windows 7 and 8 for PowerArchiver that allows the user to drag and drop ISO's or archives onto it and it acts on the users settings.

So if i droped an ISO on it it would mount as disk then i could click a button on the gadget of such would unmount it.

But the argument about gadgets were it would drill into development time, and many windows users dont use gadgets.

there is a right click and unmount but you have to right click on an icon and the option to do so will present itself.

I right clicked on a desktop icon and the option was in the PA context menu...see screenshot.

you may think it a little clumsy but it does work.

yer but that takes you to another window, then you have to select the ISO that you want to demount.

What would be good is if it listed those currently mounted ISO's within that Shell.

But, again it doesnt bother me as a user. just one of them niggles.

I agree Richard...it isn't perfect but before this I had to use another program to perform the task.
it's a task I use often 'mounting an iso file' but I've found myself using it less and less based simply
on it's slightly 'clunky' design...this isn't to say the PA team didn't do a decent job giving us the option in the first place...

PA's ISO Mounting and demounting is used by me every day.

Last night i watched a DVD that was mounted from PowerArchiver. I mount Blueray's and installation disks. all using powerarchiver.

And considering that they Disc support from PowerArchiver is technically fairly new to the application in that it hasnt changed much since release it does a dam good job.

It's only little niggles , nothing more.

it is not that simple... PA allows you to right click and unmount from anywhere... if it was only on specific iso, then you would also have to take steps to find that iso in windows explorer which is also not going to be super fast.

p.s. we cant have it mounted from the network, it is limitation. has to be locally.
