Password Protection

I have been asked to locate a product that can archive and password protect files for distrubition over a FTP site. The file type must be supported by Linux(REdHat and SuSE), AIX, HPUX, and Solaris. Also this should be able to be done from the command line. If your product offers this that would be great, and if it doesn't could you recomend one that does? Thank you for your time.
