Can't extract .001 files

I had a video file split into .001, .002, etc. and PowerArchiver was unable to extract the file. It said it was not a valid archive or something like that. Then I used xxxx and it extracted the file without any trouble.

Anyone know why?

Which version of PA are you using? The latest version should open it fine.
These are spanned 7z archives. In PA 2011, we had an issue such as you describe and that issue was fixed back then. I've tested spanned .001 archived with the latest PA and it works just fine.
If not already, give it a try with the latest version.
