Compression profiles

Earlier I asked about compression profiles, and, unless I am mistaken, I never got an answer.

Actually, I have the earlier questions and a new one.

1) I have tried creating profiles. I was able to create one, but couldn't do anything with it. I couldn't rename it, and it would never show up in any drop down box where I really wanted to use it. Any idea where I am going awry?

2) I specifically want to create a ZIP and a ZIPX profile with different compression, and with one encrypted and one not. Just cannot seem to do it. Ideas.

3) The profile I DID manage to create does not show up on my list of profiles in the configuration menu . . . but it is somehow still there as an option in the ftp menu. Any idea why? How do I get rid of it?

this should work fine now in the latest version.
Fixed previously and tested today.

If there are any issues, please note specifics
Thanks!

half way home

We are half way home.

I CAN now rename new profiles.

But one issue remains, and now I see a new related one.

If I go to the FTP tab, then look under the list of available profiles (the second one on that part of the ribbon): (a) the old "profile 1" (which I couldn't rename) is still there, even though it is not listed in the compression profiles on the config page. I may just got poking around the registry to see if I can clean it out. (b) it does not allow me to choose ZIPX (or a new profile) for sending files via FTP.

THEN, while trying to see if I could find "Profile 1" in the registry . . .
I notice that all the ZTE registry entries are still there, even though I uninstalled it. Any problem with deleting that key?

Can you sent a screenshot of what you are referring to?
I'm not sure where compression profiles would show up in the FTP tab.

you found it, great!!
thanks for posting the screenshot!

Tested it and it worked fine. A profile which I created and initially named "mili" showed up in FTP Profiles as "mili"
then i renamed it to "mili 2" and it showed up as "mili 2"
Then I deleted it, and it did not show up anymore

Please check to see how it shows up in config and that it did not by chance stay in config as "profile1"

continuuing

BTW, I am still having the same problem.

When I drag and drop to a zipx file, the format option is listed as ZIP, and the Profile option is greyed out . . . unless I scroll through the other format options first . . . and then the profile option drop down option works.

Been doing this for close to six months. apparently you have not been able to find a solution.

I assume this is not something there by design.

right now ZIPX is not an special profile category, but option within ZIP profile (depending on what compression you chose)... is this what is happening?

profiles

See the two images attached.

The first I get by default when I drag and drop.

The second the drop down profile becomes active, and I can add the ZIPx profile I created.

Thanks Socrates, I was able to find a similar issue with compression profiles and D&D into archive and that is logged in.

However, could not find/reproduce what you posted.
Could you provide a more detailed screenshot and explanation so that I may exactly reproduce and log it in.
Thanks!

D&d

Perhaps I am misunderstanding your question.

Just stick the attached image between the 2 I sent earlier.

(1) right after D&D I cannot see the profile (or choose among profile options) — previous Profile1 image
(2) I shift to another format (see new attached image)
(3) then back to Zip format, and the drop down profile options appear (previous Profile 2 image.

That help?

I ask as the D&D dialog is what is in the screenshot and the compression profiles option is different than what is shown in your screenshot.
That is why i asked for a larger/more detailed screenshot.

hmm

I don't have ZipStore as an option no matter what. And I have ZIPX only because I added it.

I cannot think of anything else to send you other than what I have sent.

If you all are just not sure, there's no reason to ask any more. I will just plan on taking the extra steps everytime I d&d.

Sorry I cannot be of more help.

The options in the dropdown shown in my screenshot are profiles i created as well.
I posted the screenshot to show what the D&D dialog looks like, differing from what I can comprehend in the screenshot you sent.

I guess I'll try to decipher your screenshots and try to reproduce the issue. Thanks!

maybe check with professors pa registry and see if you can reproduce it like that. it might be due to the specific profile.

not sure

All you need look at for sure is Profile 1 image I sent 2-3 days ago. When I first try to d&d the profile drop down window is greyed out -- and so the other features are wrong.

Only after I change to another format (say, 7z) and then back to zip does the profile drop down window become active (is no longer greyed out).

The very first image identifies the problem (by my lights). the other two only show what I must do to get the profile drop down window to work.

I was finally able to figure it out.
It happens when dragging a file onto a Zipx archive, in windows explorer for example. (file not open in main PA)

Logging it in.

thanks and apologies

Thanks.

Sorry it took me so long to explain it clearly. My bad. That is almost always the way I add files to an archive, so I erroneously assumed most other people did the same. Duh. I am slow.

Goodness. No need to apologize. It is my job to explain the problem clearly. You all have a difficult enough job as it is.

I am just glad I was finally able to explain it clearly enough.

Thanks for a great product.

Yup

Many ways of doing it. But D&D onto the icon always seemed the easiest.

Which is why I would also like to be able to move or copy depending on which keys I hold down while D&D (which key combinations matters now) — just as move seems the default in Win 7, but holding down the CTRL key while doing it copies the file.
