moving file from one encrypted archive to another
Questions.
1) Sometimes I want to move a single file from one archive to another. This seems to work just fine with D&D. But the problem arises if both files are encrypted AND the passwords are different . . . When I try to do this a dialogue box opens wanting to know the password. I ASSUMED it first wanted the password from the archive FROM WHICH I was dragging the file. But I have had a mess working on that assumption. Am I mistaken? I am having, too, what I take to be a related problem. Suppose I want to update a file (call it file 'A') in an encrypted archive by ADDING a single file (call it 'B') from another archive. PA doesn't seem to know what to do. Among other things, I do NOT get the dialogue box wanting to know if I want to update file A (even though I have that box checked in the configuration settings). Am I trying to do just what cannot be done? Or I am botching my execution? |

This is how I tested
Archive A and Archive B, both encrypted with different passwords. 1.Move file from Archive A into Archive B 2. PA asks for password from Archive A, enter correct password 3. D&D dialog comes up as it should, selected my desired settings, click OK and file was added properly. |

sorry
Sorry I was unclear. There is a second element of my problem.
First, you didn't mention when I get the request for a PW for B archive (the 2nd archive). There is a second element of my problem. I am not JUST adding the file. I am opening a file in B -- which opens after I enter the relevant pw. Then I am adding a file from A to that open file (the 2nd file is a portfolio. I should then get a dialogue asking me if I want to update the resultant file in B. I do not get said dialogue, and it doesn't add the file. I am not sure this explanation is much clearer. If so, not to worry. I have a more lengthy workaround. |

I would recommend that we name things correctly so we don't confuse them.
Let's refer to an Archive as Archive and a file that's inside an archive, File. Given that, I would need some clarification as to what this part means and how it is related to the report in the first post; "I am not JUST adding the file. I am opening a file in B -- which opens after I enter the relevant pw. Then I am adding a file from A to that open file (the 2nd file is a portfolio." Thanks! |

Moreover, how do you update a file inside an archive by adding a file to that file?

Seems as if (a) I cannot explain this clearly enough, and (b) it probably cannot do what I want done, so I will stick with the workaround. Sorry for the bother. |
