encryption

Sorry if I missed the answer somewhere else.

I find several behaviors using encrypted files a bit odd. So I think I must be overlooking something.

I have an archive containing encrypted files. I want to add a single encrypted file. It seems there is no single (or even two-step) way to do that. Rather than just being able to encrypt the added file, PA creates an entirely new archive.

I have a related problem if I want to delete a single file from that archive, I don't seem to be able to do it, at least if it is pae file.

Is that correct?

PAE is just an container format... create zip and then encrypt it with PAE. PA will transparently handle zip inside next time you open PAE file.

You can also use ZIP or 7zip AES encryption, it is as secure.

follow-up

Suppose I have a file (X) I want to add to an encrypted archive (123).

While in Windows Explorer, I drag the file over the archive and release the mouse button. The add dialogue opens.

However, the default filename of the archive is X . . . not 123 -- which I assumed it would be since I dragged X into the 123 archive.

I can rename the file to 123, and it will add and encrypt the individual file X as it should.

However, why should I have to rename it? It seems that the default filename should be 123 (since that is the name of the archive into which I dropped the file).

What OS do you use? On Win7 64bit, i get proper filename in that box. You basically drag and drop file into zipx file?

Win7 32 bit.

I am dragging on dropping on the archive (and I see a "Copy" tip). I do not open the archive first.

for some reason it works fine here... it might be some specific setting used (we usually use defaults). Can someone else try it? It should be easy to reproduce.

thank you.
