assign fixed letter to VD

Specifically, for me, a fixed driveletter for a virtual drive wud be handy. Maybe have an option to 'set' this within PA ?

Something like:

Virtual Drive letter:
[_] First available free letter
[X] Fixed driveletter, viz. [Z]

-where z can be selected from a pulldown menu.

brgds

we can do that... for PA 2011 .
We planned few other enhancements to that portion of PA anyway.

Hello again,
Getting back to the below - just curious to know - are there any developments as to the below ?
(I remember having asked for this in another thread
"Virtual Drive enhancements/improvements " as well).

The thing is that PA Virtual Drive is 'stealing' a drive letter of one of my external USB-drives, so it messes up the driveletter sequence.

I make use of USBDLM and it is possible to assign a driveletter to Virtual Drives for some applications, like
Daemon or Slysoft Virtual CloneDrive.

See:
http://www.uwe-sieber.de/usbdlm_help_e.html#by_bustype

It is then possible to add into the .ini file something like

[DriveLetters11]
BusType=SCSI
DeviceID1=ELBY CLONEDRIVE
Letter=X

so, the virtual drive will get driveletter X.

That works fine for Daemon/Elby
But how about PowerArchiver ?

Rather than this workaround, it would be much better to have this (if possible) in the setup of PowerArchiver.
Maybe, though, the driveletter assignment is done by Windows (instead of PA)?

Thanks

option?

If nothing else, you can always change the drive letter (after you have installed a VD) using Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Computer Management, Disk Management.

This it will "stick" within a session, even if you dump one VD and install another.

Somethings these stick even between sessions.

Just a thought

if

If you are always want to keep the same VDs loaded, then you could click the box as Spywolf suggests AND set the drive letter using the Control Panel (see above).

It's not as simple as you want. But it would work.

Sorry friends, thanks to you all for the input.

However, even though PA is really a fine product, I feel having to deviate to another product only, as far as Virtual Drive is concerned.
I donot want to go into Windows drivemgt to change letters (have done this dozen of times, having 5 external drives, and Bestcrypt containerfiles that act as drives).

Right now I am using USBDLM and no matter what drive I switch on,or thumbdrive I plug in, it get's the right driveletter. Changing driveletters in drivemgt is passed.

Feel bad to say, but I will us Slysoft CloneDrive for the time being and maybe one day in future PA has this 'fixed', or I can assign a driveletter to PA Virtual Drive like with Elby (bustype scsi, etc. see my earlier mail).

Thanks again.
