When I drag a file (no difference left or right drag) onto an archive, I get an error message saying the archive cannot be created as it exists - this is unecessary (can it be removed) - I get asked if I want to update the existing file - which I do. I would like an option as to whether the file is moved or added - I can only seem to do the latter. Part of this process is a message asking if I want to overwrite the existing acrchive...which is quite alarming.
I do like dragging and dropping with archives and the process with PA is not as polished as it could be. With kind regards DrT

the way it works for me is it asks you if you are sure if you want to update the file, because you might do it by accident (drag an file icon onto the archive icon)... and it asks you to overwrite only if you say no to update...
Overwrite should be alarming as old archive is being deleted. Or is there something else happening for you?

Hi,
It happens for me just as I described it...with the 'unable to create as it exists' message. I have just checked with several different zip files all the same result. I get the overwriting message if I decline to update the existing archive. I get exactly the same behaviour on another PC. What more info can I give you? I can do screen shots if you need. Cheers DrT

if you decline the update, you should get overwrite message, what do you expect to get? But I dont understand the first part (unable to create...).

Hi guys,
1) Using XP. Just tested it with Vista, drag and drop does not work. 2) The archive already exists. I like using drag and drop to add/move a file to an *existing* archive. Just drag and drop an existing file onto an existing zip file until a '+' appears. WinZip does this okay without any error messages of any type...it just works - in fact a dialogue box appears asking if I want to add or move the extra file. IIRC, there is a section in the options to configure this behaviour. Don't use WinZip anymore so a moot point. Let me know if you need any further info. Cheers DrT

that works here... it might be due to specific zip maybe? maybe filename or complete path?
create 1.zip in C:\1 and try adding 1.txt from C:\1 to it, does that work?

Still don't see the "unable..." message?
Just to be explicit - how are you doing this.. Where is the Zip archive - a) In PA GUI b) Using Windows explorer c) Just on Windows Desktop d) Drive/Partition/Network? And same questions for the file you are dragging. I am guessing that the dragged file does not already exist inside archive - although doesn't seem to matter in my checking. P.S. Also Zip is not password protected??

OK. I completely mis-understood your original message.

I don't agree that it is unnecessary - what if you dropped on the wrong archive (or only meant to drop in a gap to do a windows move/copy and not an archive process)? This is the only way to provide an "oops - cancel" option. Quote:

Drag & drop is not creating <file.zip>. Of course, you could say that this overwrite should not occur - when choosing Cancel to update, then just cancel everything.

yeah, thats supposed to be that way - i get different worded one since for vista we had to use different drag and drop code for it to work (one without can not create but just update notification)....
if you guys want, we could give full d&d options window when you drag and drop here (check with archive open in PA and then drag and drop file for example)? Or just change the wording to mention update only and not can not create?
