Create .rar archives with PA?

Hi, I was wondering if there are plans for PA to be able to create .rar archives? I think for this you need the registered version of WinRAR installed on your pc and PA would need to interface with that through a plugin interface? But for those of us who already own WinRAR but would like to use (prettier ) PA to create .rar archives with, this feature would be really nice. Just wondering if there are plans to support this.

Hmm, guess this would be more appropriate in either General or Wishlist sections, please feel free to move it.

you can not do this due to rar owner not allowing this. However you can create a plugin that uses the commandline rar program. I'm in the process of testing one out for pa though i do stress u still need to registar that componet with winrar.

Don't ask me for it.

way round the license

pa can via a plugin run winrars features. However as pa stated it would cause an infringement of the rar license.

Wrong

If they create an official plugin that uses rar license only if an official rar license is on your computer then it would work.

What people want is to use the rar features in pa instead of having to open up winrar all the time.

Pa is far better in terms of interface and ease of use. Winrar only has the advantage of the rar format. This way i'm suggesting would benifit both parties.

How many people would like mind buying winrar license just to use its features from within the pa interface?

I know of at least 1000 people who would. Namely people who have brought other archiveing packages

All, or at least most of WinRAR's features are available through the command line. The WinRAR program itself controls its own licensing; i.e. if the program isn't registered then it will do any necessary work of crippling itself. In fact, I've run into the limitations of the non-registered version when using it from the command line before I actually went and bought it so I know that it does this. So, a plugin for PA should only need to work towards interfacing with WinRAR's features and any checking on PA's part whether WinRAR is registered should be moot.

I don't see any licensing conflict here since any user wanting to use it would need to first register WinRAR as well. People who don't yet own WinRAR probably won't bother with this but for those of us who do own WinRAR and enjoy some of its features and like the .rar format this will be nice to have.

If you make it I'll test it.

Thumbs up

I support the wish!

As many of you, I'm a paid customer of both winrar and powearchiver..and I would love to use a single gui for handling both programs! of course I'd use PA's gui as it's way better than wrar's!

Are they opposed to any inclusion of rar? Or is it an issue of paying some kind of licensing fee? In the next few months I need to buy another PA license. I would pay more to buy a version that included the Winrar license fully integrated, rather than buying two separate licenses if I could save a few bucks.

maybe in the future... MAYBE.

For creating plugin that works with command line rar. That will have to be in PA 2008 since current plugins can do only extract.

But again, MAYBE.

This would be the #1 program if you could make RAR with File Repairing and variable amount of redundancy for better error ercovery.
