Converter - delete original

I didn't see this request here, but I guess it will be easy to code and very helpful for those who have thousands of zip archives and wish to convert them to 7z.

Deleting thousands of files automatically really scares me!
But then again thousands of prompts would scare me even more

If those files are in same folder, use converter to convert them and make sure new files are placed in some other folder. Then manually delete those files - if there are other files around, you can use search for specific format and then delete them.

Reason we dont want to have delete option in converter is that there are too many possibilities of something going wrong.

The possibility that something can go wrong is up to the user, or are you mentioning program bugs?
Winrar does a fantastic job of converting files. I guess is the current reference in that matter. Unfortunately it doesn't convert to 7-zip.
I have 8gb of zip archives with office documents spread through many directories. Converting them would recover about 3gb of disk space.
Now, you see my problem

basically i dont think there is an way to properly verify that 8 GB of zip archives were sucessfully converted into 7zip. Hence, no delete option.

But you can still do what I originally suggested (use Windows search for all .zip files and then delete them).

Winrar does it. It converts, tests and deletes every archive. But that's ok. I'll have to search all zip, convert about 400mb at a time, than delete them, because I only have 500mb free in this partition.

If you are working on this partition, remember that you will need enough free space for the uncompressed files as well as the "new" archives.

P.S. Maybe save them on CD / DVD to free hard disk space?

You should also consider converting to CAB format. This usually gives better compression than 7z with MS Office document files - also have a look at PACL (command line/batch file tool) to do this.
