PA 2006 cannot properly handle this ZIP file...

Download the widget at http://www.widgetgallery.com/view.php?widget=36155

If you open it, you will notice that some characters are not properly displayed. If you try to extract it, you get an error.

Windows XP, SP2

Yes, the filenames for Icon files are using "strange" characters.

If you enable "Use OEM conversion for filenames" (Options/Miscellaneous) it does work.
Note: PA reported another problem with the cache.jpg file ["check file is not in use"] - but the file actually extracted OK.

EDIT - sorry, with the OEM option set, the icon files are still NOT extracted.

Hi Ivan,

The link takes you to the website then you have to click the download link about mid-way down. I did it that way so people would know what it is they are downloading.

Here is a direct link http://www.widgetgallery.com/dl_r.ph...5&platform=win

Just to clarify, no utility I have tried will extract "cleanly" from that widget zip.
I think the naming problem is making it too damaged.

What should PA do? I see the problem with ZIP archive as any other utility?

WinZip does extract all files from that archive without any problems. PowerArchiver should do the same.

Not quite - WinZip "automatically" renames the icon files - I admit it does this silently, so that the problem is not obvious, but is this a good thing?
This is why I tried the PA "OEM conversion" flag.

Perhaps PA should clarify what the problem is and allow renaming and extraction with this flag set?

Thumbs up

You can close this thread.

While PA still cannot handle the file, I have discovered that the file works with Konfabulator if I rename the extension to .widget

Therefore, I no longer have a need for PA to be able to handle it.
