Very long rar extraction
It took over 10 minutes to extract a 3.50GB two part RAR file all the while maxing out the CPU and using nearly all the available memory. There were no other programs running except for my startup programs (Norton Internet Security 2013 + ATI Catalyst Control Center + OneNote). It seems like with every update that is issued, the slower and more CPU/Memory intensive the extraction process becomes. I hate having to use multiple decompression programs but may be forced to using the "Win Twins" (WinZip & WinRar) if PA doesn't start functioning better.

Here is a test extract if a 3.5 gig RAR archive, the file Test.rar extracted in a time frame of about 3 minutes, as shown in the screenshot.
One of the possibilities of the delayed extraction in your case could be the Anti Virus software maybe? |

If you think for one second that I am going to disable my security software just to extract a file, you're an hackers dream come true. And as to the claim that WinRar is/will be slower, I have proof to the contrary. In fact, it extracted the same 3.5GB file in 2½ minutes with no problem. Why? Because it is up-to-date with the latest RAR compression formats whereas apparently PA is not (based on several threads in the forums here).

If you have some issues with PA speed, it is likely that is caused by Norton AV. Maybe try reinstalling PA and see if that changes anything. Maybe try extracting it again and check the speed. There is no reason to be angry in every post you make, it is tiring. We are here to help you, and we do compression codecs well.

First, I'm not angry with every post I make. Being a reformed black hat, I am upset when you make the absurd suggestion of disabling any security software just to extract a file. As you appear to be aware of, it only takes seconds to attack and/or infect a users system so why tell them to become vulnerable in the first place?
The fact is that when you tell someone to disable their security software so that your software can perform better you are enabling cyber-criminals around the world to do their dirty work. If your software doesn't play well with security software then perhaps you need to contact those software companies so that they can supply you with the appropriate and latest API's to make the programs work better together. I do have a question regarding Java since it appears every time there is a Java update, your software begins to have issues with decompression times. For example, if I uninstall a Java update then your software regains its speed until I reinstall the update at which point it slows down again. |

There is no relation at all. Same goes for Antivirus, it is not an known issue, but it could be happening. We are asking questions in order to be able to troubleshoot the problem you have. We can not know what it is if we dont ask the questions. In general, PA has the fastest rar extraction you can find on the market, it is not something "normal".

you can also test the speed again and see if it is the same or?
