2012 Rar support
So am I wrong in saying that in order for rar support to work in 2012. You have to have winrar installed as well
Which is shareware so you have to have two compression utilities both of which are shareware that have to be payed for .. unless you use the free version of PA of course |

You are not wrong.
PowerArchiver (Conexware) does not have a license to distribute RAR compression, but can use it if you have WinRar installed on your computer.

You only need to install WinRAR's application as a trial it does not need to be Shell enabled, start menu or desktop icons installed.
PowerArchiver utilises the "RAR.EXE" Container it is only this thats required as so to allow PowerArchiver to compress RAR formats. But no purchase of Winrar is required.

The WinRAR license agreement specifically requires you to purchase a license within 40 days of installing the software or to remove the software after 40 days if there is no intention of purchasing a license. How does using another program to "run" WinRAR suddenly void the need to purchase a license? Did you check you facts with WinRAR GmbH? |

We have sold more than million licenses so far and I bet WR has sold a lot more. If people want to use RAR in PA they have to have it properly licensed and plenty of our users do, so this is good option for them.

I said no purchase is required "for trial basis". Typically should a user wishes to use the latest version of rar and is something required then a purchase is nessasary.
My note was that you can have RAR on trial and if you are just interested in testing it with pa the user could remove all shell entries so rar does appear on other formats. Its also possible users who already have rar but also have PA would like to know if they have to have both applications fully associated with all file types. If a user wishes to use PA for everything including rar and they have purchased rar prior then this also helps them understand shell's can be taken off and pa used as a primary application to compress and extract rar formats. There is no need for such an aggresive response.

lets clarifi the rar support is there for users who wnat to use the powerarchiver interface and rar together.
You do indeed have to buy winrar in order to legally use rar files. think of it like microsoft you get an operating system but you dont get a fully fleged word processor you have to buy it. Its the same principle. If you dont want rar support dont buy winrar. In my opinion winrar interface is not as good as pa's but rar format is worth getting and using. The choice is yours. |

Rar
I don't think this is put exactly right.
As I understand it, you can legally open (and in that sense, use) RAR files with PA and without purchasing WINRAR. However, you cannot legally create RAR files unless you purchase WINRAR. If you do, then you can create RAR files from within the RAR interface, or, if you wish, within the PA program. Last edited by Socrates; 07-04-2012 at 08:00 AM. |

for creating rar's, you need to have WR installed and abide by their license, which I think gives you 40 days trial. for extracting rar's, you can use PA only and dont need to have anything else installed (especially since PA has fastest rar extraction on the market).

Well, I've used winrar for the 40-day free trial offers for other products including, even wrote an email to support winrar and said that within 40 days can use your program in all its etensión even functions how to generate self-extracting executables and without legal risk.
Greetings! : Cool: |
