Advice please

Hi,
I have PA 2011 Toolbox (well have just installed the latest beta of 2012).
I have thousands of photos on my hard disk, in the folder format: Year and the month folders under each year. I wish to backup these to many 8.5GB DVDs and was wondering what is the best way to do it. I would like to be able to filter out some files, *.RWS etc.
Have tried on the standalon burner but that doesn't filter. I want to select folders one by one until I reach the 8.5GB and then burn them to DVD.
I tried doing it with spanning but it didn't seem to work.
Has anyone done this or got any ideas on the best way please?
