7z shell extensions

if i slect a filke say 8 mb tand click on 7z name7z for example it starts to work then slows right down after about 58 %

however if i select 7z + options and then click on the 7zi file is created ok no problems

the file i'm archiving is a setup.eng (avast antivirus setup file)

I'm using windows 98 se

does it just slow down and completes or does it hang there? If it completes, is it the same size as in + options or? It is possible that using it directly activates the ultra option which is slower, while + option uses something else?

thanks,

it slows down and hangs i nbever got further than 58%

the + option uses normal compression and works fine

Have you tried compressing it with the + option and then using all the avaliable compression levels ?

Try using + Option and Ultra compression - what happens then?

p.s. I could not reproduce this with my copy of Avast setup

does pa use ultra for its shell extensions as normal work fine from the _option

When checking Options / Configuration / compression profiles / create new
the "profile1" for 7z is set to Ultra so this *may* be the default which is used in shell context menu.

The help file says
Quote:

When you first install PowerArchiver, it will create a default compression profile for each format. These profiles can not be deleted and are always saved in PowerArchiver.
What are the settings for these default profiles that PA creates?

spwolf 12-16-2004 02:17 PM

Default seetings are maximum always (Ultra in this case), but David should check first if Ultra works from + Options, before any conclusions are made.

For me, Avast setup in question works fine at all 7zip settings...

thanks,

Because PA uses the 7zip DLL (ie. 7z.dll) for compression/decompression of 7-zip archives, another thing to try would be to see if the 7-zip archiver itself has any problems compressing Avast.

If it does then it is most likely a problem with the 7zip DLL, otherwise it is likely to be a problem with the way PA integrates with 7z.dll.

ultra is the problem would it not be best to have normal used instaed of ultra if the user wants ultra to add it themselves.
