It's not so much the update check itself that I found annoying, but having it pop up and then later telling me that no updates were available. I don't need to be told that PA is checking for updates (after all, if I didn't want it to, I would've set the frequency to "never") and I certainly don't need to be told that no updates are available -- that is non-information. Have it work in the background and only tell me something that I need to know (an update is available). Unobtrusive is the magic word. Other than that, I already like your existing update system and especially the fact that it shows the "what's new" information with the update notification itself. I also love that you do frequent updates and keep improving the software. If this blog post is any indication and that niggle is resolved, that will make an already great piece of software even better!
